Lazy morning - complete with a little fire. We got underway midmorning, hiked the mile to Mynam Lake, and then left up to Carper's Pass. The last bit up the pass was great, full of huge boulders that made the area look like ancient ruins. From the pass, there were tons of views of the ridges we walked and camped beneath to the west, and the Lakes Basin to the East. The lakes sparkled in the sunlight, and the meadows grew even lovelier as we descended into them. The original plan was to go straight through the basin and over another pass to Glacier Lake, but the basin was just so striking. We changed our plans and set up camp. As Labor Day weekend is ending, the crowds seem to have disappeared entirely. I am currently sitting in the best sitting spot ever, over Mirror Lake, Eagle Cap towering aboe me and the wind keeping me cool in the sun

The day was even younger than we thought when we set up camp, so we had plenty of time fo s'plorin'. I wandered through a lovely meadow with a crystal clear meandering creek, and Larry and I walked among uge oulders to a view of Mocassin Lake. A ranger came by later and warned us of inclement weather the next day, so we agreed - as usual - to be flexible about our plans.
