The day began with 5.5 miles up Eagle Creek, which glowed red with some unknown plant that was drying up as summer ended. the 1.5 miles up Frazier Pass in the sun was a slog, but it made the break and lunch on top that much sweeter. We got down to the Mynam River quickly. Big horse camp was there. Otherwise, good camping available in the meadows there. There were a number of horses and braying mules when we passed through - in addition to a couple with a teepee - and the whole encampment reminded me of a Civil War reenactment.
We headed up the Mynam River to Mynam Lake, which was severely drawn down and covered in algae. Unfortunately, many of the lakes in the southern part of the forest are dammed for agricultural purposes.
We turned SW at Mynam for Blue Lake, which was our seemingly unreachable desination. We arrived around 4 pm, and were surprised to find the lake empty. We were later joined by otherse, but thankfully no horse packers! We found a large spot overlooking the lake, with a view of the VERY active scree slopes on the rides above. We were pretty wiped after 11 miles with HEAVY packs and enjoyed a couple hours of daylight to chill out at camp.
