Planned to day hike to Hidden Lake today, but ot distracted by the many climbable peaks on both sides of Eale Creek meadows. We cose a nameless one on the west side of the valley. We considered various routes, and ultimately the traverse option may have been more reasonable. We basically went straight up. The first half was alright - steep rocks and brush, which eventually gave way to large slabs of rock. Fun to clamber up, but I already was feeling like getting down was going to be a hassle. The higher we got, the looser the rock got (my favorite) until I was grasping at dirt and pebles. We scrambled over what looked like the summit block, dropped down into a small basin and slogged the final few feet to the true summit. Caught our breath and enjoyed lunch and the views before heading down. (remember the hidden meadow below.)
Down certainly was a hassle. We took turns going down a couple gullies, moving away and out of danger of rockfall while the other came down. As the route widened out, we stayed parallel to each other. The huge slabs did quite a number on my quads. Stretching back at camp felt great.
